ABOUT ME

A Mathematician
Who Loves Teaching

I have loved mathematics since I was a child. What drew me in was not the calculations but the way everything connects. The same problem can be solved in five different ways, and each one teaches you something new.

At 15, I joined a specialist mathematics programme where I met peers who were genuinely brilliant and completely absorbed in the subject. That experience showed me what it looks like when someone truly loves maths, and it made me want to go deeper.

Now I work with students from international schools in Barcelona, and what I enjoy most is seeing how differently each student thinks. Every child has their own way of approaching a problem, and my job is to understand that and work with it, not against it.

I teach in English and Russian, which means many of my students can ask questions in their first language even when the exam is in English. For a lot of families, that makes a real difference.

My goal is simple: I want students to actually understand what they are doing, not just get through the next test.

SUBJECTS

Core Areas of Mathematics

Algebra
Equations, functions & patterns
Algebra is the foundation of everything else. I make sure students understand why things work, not just what to do. Once the logic clicks, the rest of maths becomes much easier.
Grades 6–12 · IB & GCSE
Geometry
Shapes, space & logical proof
We go through every theorem together until it makes sense, not just how to use it but where it comes from. Geometry is also one of the best ways to build logical thinking that helps across all subjects.
Grades 6–12 · IB & GCSE
Trigonometry
Angles, triangles & beyond
Most students struggle with trig because it gets introduced as a list of formulas to memorise. I start with what sine and cosine actually mean, and the formulas tend to take care of themselves after that.
Grades 9–12 · IB & GCSE
Exam Preparation
GCSE & IB targeted prep
We go through past papers, find the specific gaps and work on those. No generic revision. Every session is focused on what your child actually needs for their exam.
GCSE · IB SL & HL
Problem Solving
Logic, reasoning & methods
Lots of students know the theory but freeze when a question looks unfamiliar. We practise breaking any problem into steps so there is no panic when something looks new.
Grades 6–12 · All levels
Olympiad Mathematics
Competition problem solving
For students who want more of a challenge. We work on non-standard problems, build creative thinking and learn to stay calm when the answer is not immediately obvious.
Grades 4–9 · Various competitions

CASES

Student Cases

Two sisters from Russia, age 13–15 · ongoing

When they moved abroad and started studying in English, their results dropped. The content was familiar but the language made everything harder. We work together in English, switching to Russian when something needs more explanation. Their IB scores went from 3–4 out of 8 to 5–6, they passed the entrance exam to a stronger British school and recently moved again. We are still working together.

Twin sisters, age 10–12 · 2.5 years

Their father, a Swiss mathematician, wanted his daughters to experience the Russian approach to maths. I translated and adapted materials for them, and we worked freely across algebra, geometry and olympiad problems. Two years in a row they took 1st and 2nd place in their school olympiad.

A girl who didn't like maths, age 8–10 · 2 years

The goal was not grades but curiosity. We used games, puzzles and real-world connections to show her that maths is not just a school subject. By the end she was the one asking to do more problems.
